About the Star Awards...
Andrew Carpenter had the idea in 2007 of an Awards Ceremony for the Frome Operatic Society to acknowledge high quality performance in the many and varied productions we now perform in any given year. His original idea was to have an Autumn event but his colleagues on the Executive Committee considered that the Annual Dinner Dance needed 'pepping up' and so for 2008 the events were combined.
To be able to achieve the quality of award and event that Andrew was looking for, it was evident that we would require sponsorship and he was overwhelmed by the response from local businesses when he went searching with his begging bowl. Andrew is indeed indebted to all the generous sponsors and in particular Travel Angels who have shown huge support for the awards by becoming our overall event sponsor.
Forget the Brit Awards and the Oscars, the FAOS Star Awards will soon become the most sought after awards in Frome and Andrew hopes that the Society will take these to their hearts and embrace them for years to come. If successful it may be that in future years they are extended to include other groups in the town such as the Frome Drama Club and the Frome Pantomime Company but for now they sit very firmly with us in the Operatic Society.
We are grateful to our judges Bob Stannard, Alex Ruddick, Reg Evans, Roni Wakeling and Karen Harley for their time and their expert judgement and feel sure all their choices will be universally endorsed by the full Society. They were asked to choose winners on individual performance and not to take into account age. Therefore if a Spellbound member has won an award it is because he/she has deserved it on merit in comparison with his/her adult colleagues.
We are also indebted to the organising Committee of Steph Hoar, Jo Windel, Karen Harley, Lyn Waller and Nevil Poole who have sweated blood to ensure the Inaugural Awards ceremony is a huge success.
