The One Show twinning with Frome Ceremony
FAOS were delighted to be invited to attend 'The One Show' twinning with Frome Ceremony that took place in Oakfield Road on the evening of Friday 23rd October 2009.
You may have seen on the One Show last week when they asked if anyone wanted their town to be twinned with the programme. Mandie Stone in Frome sent them a great email outlining all the activities, history and events around Frome so Frome has been chosen as The One Show's twin town.
There was BBC activity around the town on Thursday 22nd October when they filmed with Mandie as she showed them around Frome. As presenters Adrian and Christine visited Mandie's town they thought that it's only fair that Mandie visits the BBC studio in London to unveil the town twinning plaque there. However, what she didn't know was that they also unveiled the Frome plaque live from her house!
It truly was a celebratory party atmosphere - there were three local organisations there - the Charisma Twirlers, Frome Town Youth Band and us, the Frome Amateur Operatic Society as well as the Mayor, Town Crier etc and lots of Mandie's family and neighbours. There was even some fireworks at the end too. This was all a secret to Mandie and she was very surprised to be watching all this from the comfort of The One Show's sofa!
The main show was on air between 7 - 8pm and the unveiling went live from Mandie's house in Frome for a couple of minutes at the end of the show.
What a fabulous opportunity for Frome. Thank you Mandie for writing in to the show and recommending Frome to be their twin town and of course thank you to The One Show for inviting us to join in the celebrations.
